History isn’t totally against the Dodgers Friday night … just mostly The 3-1 series deficit L.A. faces against Atlanta has been overcome, but not very often Worl Series MVP Josh Beckett hands an autographed baseball from his car to a fan Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. after the team arrived home from New York one day after winning the World Series. (AP Photo/Rick Silva) The Dodgers face an elimination game tonight, but their fans should realize history is not totally against them. (Of course, it would help if they still had Josh Beckett on their pitching staff. Stay with me, and it’ll become clear.) In the history of baseball, there have been 13 comebacks from 3-1 deficits in best-of-seven series, similar to the one the Dodgers face against the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. Keep in mind, of course, that none of those series had the elements peculiar to this postseason, including neutral sites and series without off days to tax pitching staf

Dodgers erupt for postseason record 11 first-inning runs to open Game 3 of NLCS vs. Braves ARLINGTON , Texas — Through two games of the National League Championship Series, it seemed likely the Los Angeles  Dodgers' streak of seasons without a championship would extend to 32  with scarcely a whimper.  It took just 32 minutes of Game 3 to dispel that notion in record-setting fashion.  The Dodgers teed off on a pair of Atlanta Braves pitchers for a postseason record 11 runs, a stunning power show that extended the top of the first inning longer than your late local news. And it pumped life into a Dodgers club that managed just one run in the first 15 innings of this LCS.  The Dodgers clubbed three home runs in the inning, capped by Max Muncy's grand slam, and every player in the lineup reached base at least once as they came to bat 14 times. Atlanta starter Kyle Wright faced nine of them and retired just two, immediately after Mookie Betts and Corey Seager jumped him for an infie

The No. 1 seed Dodgers knocked off the Padres in three games in the NLDS while the No. 2 seed Braves swept the Marlins in three games. Both the Braves and Dodgers are 5-0 in this postseason.  Here's how you can watch Game 1 on Monday . The Dodgers sent out their ace Walker Buehler to start the NLCS opener. Buehler, 26, has made starts in each of the Dodgers' first two rounds of the postseason, but he's been dealt with blister issues on his right index finger over the last several weeks, which have kept him from pitching beyond the fourth inning. The Braves have Max Fried on the mound for Game 1. In his last start, Fried allowed four runs ove

Los Angeles Dodgers add LHP Alex Wood to roster ahead of NLCS ARLINGTON, Texas -- The  Los Angeles Dodgers  have added left-hander  Alex Wood  as an extra pitcher for the National League Championship Series against the  Atlanta Braves , while also bringing back infielder Edwin Rios after he missed the last round with a groin injury. Atlanta went with the same 28-player roster it had for its NL Division Series, with 15 pitchers and 13 position players. Wood missed a month of the shortened season because of a shoulder injury in his first start, though he returned in September, when seven of his eight appearances were in relief. Los Angeles is going with 15 pitchers, after having 14 on its roster in the three-game NL Division Series sweep of San Diego and 13 in the wild-card round against Milwaukee. Terrance Gore  was left off the NLCS roster after the speedy outfielder didn't appear in either series. Rios replaced  Gavin Lux , who had only one at-bat against the Padres. The Braves
