Fact check: Are Abbott’s ads defending Texas GOP under fire from Democrats over health care true? Last year, Texas passed a bill to protect coverage of pre-existing conditions, the ads brag. But the bill just set up a process for devising a fix for high premiums sick Texans paid – before 2013. Whether Republicans will protect sick people's health coverage -- if Obamacare is ruled unconstitutional -- is a top topic in ads and attacks as Democrats seek to capture the Texas House. Greg Abbott and fellow Republicans in the Texas House, under attack from Democrats saying they haven’t done enough on health care, have responded by talking a lot lately about a bill they’ve passed in each of the past two legislative sessions. But did North Richland Hills GOP Sen. Kelly Hancock’s legislation really shie

Democrats urge Bloomberg to invest in Senate races as McConnell-linked super PAC spends big Democratic presidential candidate, former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg makes a stop at one of his campaign offices in the Little Havana neighborhood on March 3, 2020 in Miami, Florida. Joe Raedle | Getty Images Democratic fundraisers are privately urging billionaire former presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg and his team to invest in hotly contested Senate races with just over a week until Election Day, according to people familiar with the matter. The pleas come as a super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell floods these races with cash on behalf of the GOP candidates. The Senate Leadership Fund, which is run by allies of McConnell, is outraising and often outspending its Democratic counterpart, Senate Majority PAC, down the stretch. The Democratic group is linked to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Bloomberg’s response to some people has not been encouraging, a

Senate confirms Amy Coney Barrett, heralding new conservative era for Supreme Court WASHINGTON — The Republican-led Senate voted narrowly on Monday to confirm  Amy Coney Barrett  to the Supreme Court, ending an  acrimonious confirmation process  and handing President Donald Trump a political victory days before the election. The 48-year-old appeals court judge will fill the seat left vacant by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the liberal icon who died Sept. 18, and is expected to propel a sharp ideological turn on the court. Democrats made numerous unsuccessful attempts to slow down or derail the vote but ran headlong into a GOP determined to cement a 6-3 majority. Some legal experts say it will be the  most conservative Supreme Court  since before World War II. The addition of Barrett could solidify the right’s advantages on issues like campaign finance and gun rights while threatening progressive issues like abortion rights, voting rights and health care regulations. The  vote  was 52-48

Kamala Harris Bursts Out Laughing When Asked By Norah O’Donnell if She Has a Socialist Perspective Kamala Harris  laughed out loud when asked on  60 Minutes  if she would advocate for a “socialist or progressive perspective” if elected. CBS News anchor  Norah O’Donnell  conducted the  60 Minutes  interview with Harris and the Democratic presidential candidate  Joe Biden , a little more than a week before the election. O’Donnell pointed out the gaps in their records in office, such as Harris’ support for policies like the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and legalizing marijuana (all opposed by Biden). “You’re considered the most liberal United States senator,” O’Donnell told Harris, citing a 2019 ranking from GovTrack, a non-partisan organization. Harris said she would always share her own perspective with Biden, and O’Donnell asked: “And is that a socialist or progressive perspective?” After an initially baffled look, Harris cracked up laughing and said, “No.” She continued: “No. It
