Rays' Kevin Kiermaier returns for Game 7 against Houston Astros Rays centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier makes a diving catch on a ball hit by the Astros' Carlos Correa during the third inning of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Petco Park in San Diego.  [ DENIS POROY | Special to the Times ] SAN DIEGO — Kevin Kiermaier had seen enough. Watching his Rays lose the past three games in the American League Championship Series to the Astros hurt worse than the pain in his left wrist, so Kiermaier returned to the lineup for Saturday night’s Game 7 that would determine who went to the World Series. He was still in considerable pain from being hit by a 99 mph fastball Tuesday. A heavy tape job would restrict his swing. And he couldn’t risk doing much pregame work. But the centerfielder knew he had to be out there. "Didn’t think it could come to this for me missing the last three games, but it’s been a battle. It has‚'' Kiermaier sai

History isn’t totally against the Dodgers Friday night … just mostly The 3-1 series deficit L.A. faces against Atlanta has been overcome, but not very often Worl Series MVP Josh Beckett hands an autographed baseball from his car to a fan Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. after the team arrived home from New York one day after winning the World Series. (AP Photo/Rick Silva) The Dodgers face an elimination game tonight, but their fans should realize history is not totally against them. (Of course, it would help if they still had Josh Beckett on their pitching staff. Stay with me, and it’ll become clear.) In the history of baseball, there have been 13 comebacks from 3-1 deficits in best-of-seven series, similar to the one the Dodgers face against the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. Keep in mind, of course, that none of those series had the elements peculiar to this postseason, including neutral sites and series without off days to tax pitching staf

And for the second straight night, they did not get it done. The Astros have prevailed with a Game 5 victory in dramatic fashion, 4-3, as Carlos Correa hit a walk-off homer in the ninth inning. Let's dive in on the key storylines and things to know from Game 5.  Correa comes through in the clutch The game-winner was a walk-off from the Astros shortstop in the bottom of the ninth vs. Nick Anderson. Astros' bullpen game vs. Rays' opener What's the difference? I'm glad you asked!  The Astros went with a bullpen game, which is just a game full of relievers. Dodgers erupt for postseason record 11 first-inning runs to open Game 3 of NLCS vs. Braves ARLINGTON , Texas — Through two games of the National League Championship Series, it seemed likely the Los Angeles  Dodgers' streak of seasons without a championship would extend to 32  with scarcely a whimper.  It took just 32 minutes of Game 3 to dispel that notion in record-setting fashion.  The Dodgers teed off on a pair of Atlanta Braves pitchers for a postseason record 11 runs, a stunning power show that extended the top of the first inning longer than your late local news. And it pumped life into a Dodgers club that managed just one run in the first 15 innings of this LCS.  The Dodgers clubbed three home runs in the inning, capped by Max Muncy's grand slam, and every player in the lineup reached base at least once as they came to bat 14 times. Atlanta starter Kyle Wright faced nine of them and retired just two, immediately after Mookie Betts and Corey Seager jumped him for an infie
