World Series 2020

World Series 2020: The oddest of World Series ends with the most 2020 moment of the season ARLINGTON, Texas -- In this oddest of years, this most peculiar of baseball seasons, there was perhaps no more telling snapshot of the United States, circa 2020, than a COVID-19-positive man sitting on the ground, maskless, next to a cancer survivor, maskless as well, with indelible grins spread across their faces. Sports is and always will be a metaphor for society. The  Los Angeles Dodgers  won the World Series on Tuesday night, and in the moments after, the world learned that  Justin Turner , the team's third baseman and pulse of the clubhouse, had contracted the coronavirus. Turner was asked to isolate. He did not abide. He strode onto the field, where his teammates were celebrating their  3-1 victory  over the  Tampa Bay Rays  in Game 6, and joined. He removed his mask to pose for pictures with his wife, whom he kissed. He planted himself on the ground as the team gathered for a photo to

Dodgers star Justin Turner tests positive for Covid, pulled from World Series win Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner tested positive for coronavirus and was pulled from the  World Series-clinching game Tuesday . Turner was mysteriously taken out of the game after seven innings and wasn't on the diamond at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as his teammates hugged and jumped for joy immediately after the Game 6 victory. Shortly after the final out, it was revealed that the 35-year-old Southern California native Turner had tested  positive for Covid-19 . "We learned during the game that Justin was a positive," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said. "He was immediately isolated to prevent spread." Thanks to everyone reaching out! I feel great, no symptoms at all. Just experienced every emotion you can possibly imagine. Can’t believe I couldn’t be out there to celebrate with my guys! So proud of this team & unbelievably happy for the City of LA #Worl

2 World Series • Tampa Bay Rays baseball team • Los Angeles Dodgers

These former Mariners found themselves in the 2020 World Series. Here’s how they got there. Tampa Bay Rays catcher Mike Zunino celebrates their victory in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday in San Diego. (Jae C. Hong / The Associated Press) As Mariners fans watch yet another MLB postseason — this one featuring an unprecedented 16 teams — without their team, do they find any solace in former Mariners getting the chance? The sight of Mike Zunino, who enticed Seattle fans with his prodigious homers and brilliant catching skills and exasperated them with his strikeouts, has done all those things for the Rays on his way to the World Series. A reminder: The Mariners are the only active MLB organization to never have appeared in a World Series. They reached that dubious distinction when the Nationals qualified for and won the World Series last season. Given personnel churn and so many transactions — including 10 trades with the Rays — since general manager Jerry Dip
