The Dodgers Were The Best Team. And The Best Team Won. The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate after winning the World Series. Maxx Wolfson / Getty Images On Tuesday night on a neutral field in Arlington, Texas, the Los Angeles Dodgers ended one of  the longest title droughts  in Major League Baseball, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in Game 6 of the World Series. It was the Dodgers’ first World Series title since 1988. And while it was a bizarre, pandemic-shortened season — encapsulated almost perfectly in Dodgers’ third baseman Justin Turner being pulled in the eighth inning because he had  tested positive for COVID-19  — the Dodgers are a deserving champion  according to our MLB ratings , which ranked the club as the league’s top team for nearly the entire season. The Dodgers had the highest World Series win probability in the preseason, per our forecast. They had the top chances at the end of August and again at the end of the regular season. In fact, the Dodgers’ 54 percent World Serie

These former Mariners found themselves in the 2020 World Series. Here’s how they got there. Tampa Bay Rays catcher Mike Zunino celebrates their victory in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday in San Diego. (Jae C. Hong / The Associated Press) As Mariners fans watch yet another MLB postseason — this one featuring an unprecedented 16 teams — without their team, do they find any solace in former Mariners getting the chance? The sight of Mike Zunino, who enticed Seattle fans with his prodigious homers and brilliant catching skills and exasperated them with his strikeouts, has done all those things for the Rays on his way to the World Series. A reminder: The Mariners are the only active MLB organization to never have appeared in a World Series. They reached that dubious distinction when the Nationals qualified for and won the World Series last season. Given personnel churn and so many transactions — including 10 trades with the Rays — since general manager Jerry Dip

Rays' Kevin Kiermaier returns for Game 7 against Houston Astros Rays centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier makes a diving catch on a ball hit by the Astros' Carlos Correa during the third inning of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Petco Park in San Diego.  [ DENIS POROY | Special to the Times ] SAN DIEGO — Kevin Kiermaier had seen enough. Watching his Rays lose the past three games in the American League Championship Series to the Astros hurt worse than the pain in his left wrist, so Kiermaier returned to the lineup for Saturday night’s Game 7 that would determine who went to the World Series. He was still in considerable pain from being hit by a 99 mph fastball Tuesday. A heavy tape job would restrict his swing. And he couldn’t risk doing much pregame work. But the centerfielder knew he had to be out there. "Didn’t think it could come to this for me missing the last three games, but it’s been a battle. It has‚'' Kiermaier sai

History isn’t totally against the Dodgers Friday night … just mostly The 3-1 series deficit L.A. faces against Atlanta has been overcome, but not very often Worl Series MVP Josh Beckett hands an autographed baseball from his car to a fan Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. after the team arrived home from New York one day after winning the World Series. (AP Photo/Rick Silva) The Dodgers face an elimination game tonight, but their fans should realize history is not totally against them. (Of course, it would help if they still had Josh Beckett on their pitching staff. Stay with me, and it’ll become clear.) In the history of baseball, there have been 13 comebacks from 3-1 deficits in best-of-seven series, similar to the one the Dodgers face against the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. Keep in mind, of course, that none of those series had the elements peculiar to this postseason, including neutral sites and series without off days to tax pitching staf
