Taylor Rapp • Los Angeles Rams • National Rugby League

Taylor Rapp battling back after preseason injury A year removed from recording 100 tackles in his rookie season for the Los Angeles Rams, second-year safety  Taylor Rapp  is still contributing in 2020 despite suffering a training camp injury. In August, Rapp suffered a knee injury that sidelined him until early September, causing him to lose valuable practice reps before the season. Even with the setback, Rapp was ready for Week 1 of this season and has played in all six games so far. He has recorded 33 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended in the Rams’ 4-2 start. Because of his absence at training camp, the door was opened for rookie  Jordan Fuller  out of Ohio State to take his starting spot at strong safety. Despite losing his starting job, Rapp still prepared every week as if he was the starter. "It's definitely been tough for me, but every week I really prepare like I'm a starter no matter what," Rapp said. "If I'm an actual starter playing...

LA Rams LT Andrew Whitworth playing younger as time goes on Despite his status as one of the oldest NFL offensive lineman, LA Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth is playing like he’s in his prime The LA Rams  brought back venerable offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth for another three-year run with the team as the starting left tackle. As the offseason began,  we  explored what options did the Rams truly have for their left tackle  position.  We concluded that, for better or worse, the Rams had no alternative. They had to bring back Whitworth. Of course, when a player is nearly 39 years old and at one of the most physically demanding positions of the NFL, you would expect age to impact performance somewhat. And yes, it has. Perhaps not in the way you might expect, though.  You see, after six games, Whitworth is performing at one of the best levels of his lengthy career. With a little help from his friends Per Pro Football Focus, he is the best offensive tackle ...

D.K. Metcalf • Arizona Cardinals • Budda Baker • Seattle Seahawks • National Rugby League • Russell Wilson

DK Metcalf Makes "Most Remarkable" Play In Seahawks Loss At Arizona Without touching the ball, DK Metcalf had a play that had everyone raving after Sunday night’s loss in Arizona.  Through five games, Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf was one of the NFL's most productive pass catchers with 496 yards and five touchdowns. He had a relatively quiet game, numbers wise, in Sunday night's 37-34 overtime loss to Arizona.  But despite catching only two passes for 23 yards, Metcalf made one of the best plays of this season, one that had teammates and opponents raving after the game, and that had football fans going crazy on social media.  With the Seahawks driving for what they hoped would be another touchdown, Russell Wilson lofted a pass towards Chris Carson, not seeing that Cardinals safety Budda Baker was breaking on the ball.  Baker picked off Wilson's pass and took off sprinting down the left sideline for what looked like it was going to be a 98-yard touchdown, but Metcal...

Arizona knocks off undefeated Seattle with 37-34 OT victory GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) —  Zane Gonzalez made a 48-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in overtime to give the Arizona Cardinals a 37-34 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a thriller that featured 1,091 total yards, huge plays, crucial mistakes and — finally — a winner. Seattle led all of regulation until Gonzalez made a 44-yard field goal as time expired to tie it at 34. It meant an entertaining quarterback duel between Arizona's Kyler Murray and Seattle's Russell Wilson would continue. And that's when the crazy really got started. The Cardinals stopped the Seahawks opening drive in overtime and then quickly moved downfield. On second-and-15, Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury elected to go ahead and try for the field goal. Gonzalez made the 41-yarder, but Kingsbury called a timeout just before the snap because the play clock was winding down. Gonzalez missed wide left on the next attempt. Moments later...

Bill Belichick says Patriots ‘absolutely’ plan to stick with Cam Newton as starting quarterback The Patriots' coach admitted his team was "out-coached, out-played, out-everything." Bill Belichick during the Patriots' loss to the 49ers.  –AP Photo/Charles Krupa Following a game in which Cam Newton threw three interceptions and was unable to inspire the Patriots’ offense amid the worst home loss of Bill Belichick’s New England tenure, the longtime coach was asked a simple question during the postgame press conference. Would Newton — who has thrown zero touchdowns and five interceptions in his last two games (both losses) — remain the Patriots’ starting quarterback? “Absolutely,” Belichick responded. “Just wanted to get [Stidham] a little experience here.” On the team’s performance overall, Belichick acknowledged the team’s collective struggles. “We were clearly out-coached, outplayed. Just out-everything,” Belichick admitted. In his assessment of the loss, Belichick pla...

Denver Broncos • Kansas City Chiefs • National Rugby League • Patrick Mahomes II

Chiefs freeze out Broncos, coast to win in the snow DENVER – The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t need the usual heroics from Patrick Mahomes to rout the Denver Broncos 43-16 Sunday for their 10th straight win over their AFC West rivals. The Chiefs (6-1) found other ways to dominate Denver (2-4) on a snowy afternoon that began with a temperature of 14 degrees at kickoff. Kansas City took a 24-9 halftime lead even though Mahomes completed just one pass in the second quarter, a 5-yarder, and had just 99 yards through the air in the first half. Mahomes finally extended his NFL-leading streak to 17 consecutive games with a touchdown throw when he hit Tyreek Hill from 10 yards with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. That made it 37-9 and compelled Broncos pass rusher Bradley Chubb to blow up at his teammates on the sideline. Mahomes’ TD throw to Hill followed the Chiefs’ fourth takeaway, an interception by Tyrann Mathieu when rookie KJ Hamler let Drew Lock’s pass bounce off him and right ...

Los Angeles Chargers • Jacksonville Jaguars • National Rugby League • Justin Herbert

Justin Herbert notches first NFL win as Chargers top Jaguars INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Justin Herbert got his first NFL win, throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns as well as running for a score as the Los Angeles Chargers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 39-29 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Herbert, the sixth overall pick in April’s draft, completed 27 of 43 passes. He also rushed for 66 yards, a single-game high for a Chargers QB. Herbert joined Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow as the only rookie quarterbacks in NFL history with 300 yards, at least three passing TDs, and one rushing in a game. Burrow did that earlier Sunday in the Bengals’ 37-34 loss to the Cleveland Browns. More importantly for Herbert, was that first win as an NFL starting quarterback despite Los Angeles blowing another large lead. Jacksonville (1-6) tied an NFL record by allowing 30 or more points in six consecutive games. The Chargers jumped to a 16-0 second-quarter lead but squandered a double-di...
