The warning, which had already been issued earlier Thursday for western parts of North Carolina and upstate South Carolina, has been expanded eastward to include more of the metropolitan area. A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical-storm-force conditions are highly likely for Thursday. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the warning included but was not limited to: Mecklenburg, York, Cabarrus, Rowan, Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba, Cleveland, Avery, Burke, Alexander, and McDowell counties. WATCH LIVE: Hurricane Zeta moving through South Mississippi HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Strong wind gusts continue as Hurricane Zeta moves through south Mississippi. The National Weather Service in Jackson reported the center of Zeta was moving into southern Forrest County around 8:40 p.m. A Tornado Watch is currently in effect for Wayne, Greene, Perry, George, Stone and Pearl River counties. That will last until midnight. Thousands of people are  without power  in the Pine Belt as Zeta moves through south Mississippi. Hurricane Zeta made landfall as a Category 2 Hurricane along the Louisiana coast near Cocodrie Wednesday afternoon. This ties the record for the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the United States this late in the year. The last time this occurred was 1899. What to expect: There will be some localized flooding, with water coming up in people’s yards and the creeks may rise a bit for a short period of time during some of the heavy rain within the rainbands....

Casinos announce closures ahead of Hurricane Zeta MGN Image The Mississippi Gaming Commission announced it is not mandating that casinos close for Hurricane Zeta, but did discourage people from visiting the gaming halls. “We have asked the properties to discourage patrons or staff from arriving at, or departing from the property during inclement weather and to discourage anyone from leaving the property until conditions allow for safe travel,” MGC told the  Sun Herald . - Advertisement - The commission will continue to monitor conditions and make recommendations as needed. Individual casinos are closing as their conditions merit. Announced closings thus far: Island View Casino Resort  remains open; however, some areas of operation may be affected until Hurricane Zeta has passed. After a premature taste of December last week, with few exceptions the next 1-2 weeks will offer relief from premature ice and wind chill.
