'I am an unwavering patriot': Troy Aikman defends himself after comments criticizing flyover
Fox announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were captured on audio Sunday seemingly criticizing and mocking a flyover done before the Packers-Buccaneers game at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium.Apparently, Aikman received some criticisms for the remarks, because he took to Twitter on Tuesday to defend himself and explain his comments.
"I love a flyover but it was odd to see one over a mostly empty stadium," Aikman wrote. "But I am an unwavering patriot that loves this country, has always respected our flag, supported the men and women in the armed forces as well as those in uniform who serve & protect and for anyone to suggest otherwise doesn’t know me, my beliefs or what I have stood for my entire life."
The Dallas Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer ended his social media posts with an American flag emoji.
The Sunday exchange between the longtime broadcast partners appears to have been captured on a hot mic shortly after the flyover at the stadium, which has not had full capacity this season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
"That's a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover," Aikman said.
Responded a sarcastic Buck: "That's your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work."
"That stuff ain't happening with (a) Kamala (Harris)-(Joe) Biden ticket, I'll tell you that right now, partner," Aikman replied.
