Thursday Night Football

No 'Thursday Night Football' NFL game for Week 6. Here's why.

The games aren't always the juiciest match-ups, but the NFL has established a routine where the new week begins with a Thursday night contest.

Except this week, there is no Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes showdown on "Thursday Night Football."  How come?

On the NFL's original schedule, the Buffalo Bills were set to host the Kansas City Chiefs to kick off Week 6. However, the Bills had their Week 5 game against the Tennessee Titans postponed until Tuesday because of the Titans' COVID-19 outbreak.

One of the complaints about the Thursday night games in general is that teams don't have enough time to prepare after playing the previous Sunday. With the Bills having their game moved to Tuesday, the NFL decided that playing again two days later would be impossible.

As a result, the Bills-Chiefs game was pushed to 5 p.m. ET on Monday, with the regularly scheduled Monday night game -- Arizona at Dallas -- at its regular time, 8 p.m. ET.

The Bills and Chiefs weren't the only teams affected by multiple changes that were needed to rearrange the NFL schedule. Six other teams had their future schedules adjusted on Sunday.

The NFL also announced earlier this week that it's canceling this season's Pro Bowl, which was scheduled to be played the week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. That could provide one additional week to use if more regular-season games need to be postponed later in the year.

Colorado Rapids • Seattle Sounders Football Club • American Professional Football League

Three questions: Sounders at Rapids Max Aquino / Sounder at Heart The 2020 MLS regular season has been a roller coaster for the  Colorado Rapids,  having had five straight matches cancelled because of a COVID-19 outbreak. I talked with Abbie from the Burgundy Wave to get a sense of what’s going on ahead of the match with the  Seattle Sounders . Sounder at Heart:  So, this is a really weird season for the  Rapids . What’s it been like being a fan during this roller coaster? Burgundy Wave:  It’s been a tough season for Rapids fans. We came into 2020 with a lot of hope after  Robin Fraser  took over last season and they started with a road win and a home win, which was great. Then the MLS is Back Tournament happened and they struggled to get going again, which really shook everyone’s confidence. Getting a big (first) win in Sandy against RSL and bringing home the Rocky Mountain Cup was huge and right as the Rapids were picking up momentum, the COVID-...

Los Angeles Dodgers • Tampa Bay Rays baseball team • World Series

The Latest: Arozarena strikes again, gives Rays 1-0 lead ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Latest on Game 6 of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays (all times local): Randy Arozarena extended his postseason record with his 10th home run and Blake Snell struck out the side as the Tampa Bay Rays took a 1-0 lead after the first inning in Game 6 of the World Series, when a win by the Los Angeles Dodgers would give them their first title since 1988. It was Arozarena’s third homer in the World Series, the first time a rookie has hit three in the Series since Charlie Keller did it for the New York Yankees in 1939. Arozarena became the first rookie to drive in a run in four consecutive Series games. Arozarena went the opposite way in the top of the first, homering to right off rookie right-hander Tony Gonsolin with one out. Austin Meadows then hit a hard single and Brandon Lowe, who homered off Gonsolin in Game 2, walked before Manuel Margot had a flyout and Joey Wendl...
