Lineups:

LAFC start Christian Torres for the first time, with Latif Blessing moving to midfield and Mohamed El-Munir starting at right back. Big night for Torres and El-Mo on the other side of the field.

Vancouver play Lucas Cavallini and Fredy Montero up top, and most of the rest of the group will be tasked with defending here, it seems.

Los Angeles Football Club will play a game Wednesday that is unusual by MLS standards, as they’ll take on the Vancouver Whitecaps for a Whitecaps home game, but that game will actually be played at Providence Park in Portland.

That’s because the differences in public health standards between Canada and the United States make short-term travel between the countries too complicated right now. So the Whitecaps got the shaft and have to play in the Portland Timbers home. It’s weird.

At any rate, LAFC are coming off their win Sunday over the Seattle Sounders, a fantastic performance and one that showed they still have hope in each game even without several starters present. Add one more to the list, as Mark-Anthony Kaye will be out after being diagnosed with an ankle sprain this week. Either Latif Blessing will move back up to midfield or Bryce Duke or Alejandro Guido could make a start in the middle of the field.

The Whitecaps snapped a four-game losing streak at the weekend with a win over Real Salt Lake. Vancouver have been quite streaky this year and have yet to draw in league play. They are very much a work in progress but they beat the powerhouse LAFC last year so Marc Dos Santos could have a trick or two up his sleeve against the side he used to assistant coach.

This should be a good one. If LAFC get another win, they would get closer to the top three in the Western Conference, who have a bit of a lead on everyone else. If the Whitecaps win, they’ll move closer to the playoff line. Which team will emerge happier? We’ll find out at the final whistle.

Odds:

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, as of Wednesday afternoon, LAFC are (-175) while Vancouver are (+410). The odds of a draw are (+330). The bookmakers have LAFC big favorites, even on the road, but in part because the Whitecaps are also on the road.

Wednesday’s match between LAFC and the Whitecaps will be televised locally on YouTube TV and EstrellaTV and in the rest of the United States on ESPN+. The broadcast is scheduled to start at 7 pm PT with kickoff to follow.
