Despite going gold Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed again
Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed many times in the past, but this one is uniquely frustrating for many reasons.
Firstly the game had gone gold. On 5th October this was announced accompanied by a picture of Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand holding a gold copy of the game. “Going gold” is an industry term meaning that the game is feature complete and ready to be turned into physical copies and shipped. While developers continue to work on the game after going gold, anything after this is usually added in by way of patches.
Secondly the official Cyberpunk 2077 was assuring potential buyers that 19th November was set in stone right up to the announcement of this new delay. There’s a rather unfortunate conversation floating around of a user asking the account of the release date before taking time off of work, and it replying “Full confirmation!”.
Full confirmation!

Lastly the biggest issue accompanying this newest delay is a general air of mistrust. Despite CD Projekt being idolised in the community for its work on previous games and the GOG platform, the delays and issues of Cyberpunk 2077 have been pilling up rather fast.
After announcing no crunch would go into the game… crunch was then needed. When the November release was announced it was backed by official word of “no more delays” too. There’s also been a massive new marketing push for the game, again featuring Reeves and even music by Billie Eilish, espousing the 29th November release.
This latest delay feels a bit like the straw which broke the camel’s back, at least in terms of general goodwill towards it. For now all we can do is, once again, patiently wait.
As for the latest announcement, you can read it in full below. It cites the challenges of shipping the game on PC, current gen and next gen consoles all at the same time.
